Outdoor Projects

Wood’s the obvious choice for building outside. It weathers down to a gorgeous natural finish, and lends warmth, life and a wonderful woody smell to your surroundings. I’d always rather be outside than indoors, with the special exception of being in the workshop of course, and I’d be lying if I didn’t confess that these are the projects that really make my heart sing.

A repeat client asked for a bridge over his pond. The old engineer in me got very excited. The end result was a very sleek structure

Banqueting Table

When our local pub asked for an outdoor dining table, little did we know the magnitude of the task that lay ahead. A real labour of love this

Treehouse #1

This was my first large-scale structure and a steep learning curve. Everything on it was something I’d never done before.

Garden Shack

This was an ingenious re-use project, designed as a garden bar, hangout and shelter from the British summer – affectionately known as the bus stop.

Cedar Tree Cabin

A job I didn’t want to end: a wonderful location, lots of problem-solving and creative-thinking, a terrific end result, and the most amazing tea and cake.

Outdoor Family Dining Table

A table that will outlast us all – these thick slabs of oak will weather into their surroundings and host a multitude of family feasts for years to come.

Pergola

Simple and elegant, the wooden elements of this pergola slot together to be self-supporting without the need for screws or nails.

Little Library

This little project has a big heart and brought me so much pleasure – in the planning, construction and in handing it over.

Miscellany

Not all projects take a lot of work, but they all bring a lot of satisfaction. These are a few of my favourites.
